Who: Kamryn Balfour
Where: League City, Texas
Kamryn Balfour, 11, was at a camp in Texas on July 4 when flash floods surged down the Guadalupe River 19 miles away. About 135 people died, including 27 campers and counselors at an all-girls camp close to the river.
Kamryn already had a cookie-selling business, so she decided to use it to help. Over the next month, she baked and sold 1,400 chocolate chip cookies, raising $7,000 through in-person sales and online donations.
She gave the money to two organizations. One of the groups helps pets and farm animals affected by the flooding. The other cares for trained dogs that help with flood rescue efforts.

“It was very fulfilling knowing that I was helping those in need,” Kamryn says.
