Nava Ismail-Beigi
This year’s Can You Find Mapman®? contest challenged readers to figure out Mapman’s mystery location—Quebec—and create a map of that Canadian province.
The grand-prize winner is Nava Ismail-Beigi, 14, who attends Amity Middle School in Orange, Connecticut. Nava won for her entry’s clever design, especially the red-checkered pattern for the border. That tablecloth pattern is a common sight in Quebec restaurants. “I dedicated a lot of time to researching Quebec before drawing my map,” Nava says. “I learned about its culture, national symbols, and famous landmarks.”
In Nava’s entry (above), her map is surrounded by some of those findings, including Quebec’s official bird, provincial flag, and major landmarks, along with a popular food export, sport, and snack.
Congratulations to Nava and her teacher, Jennifer Marganski. They will each receive $250. Nava and the runners-up will each get a Mapman T-shirt. Mapman will soon head off to a new location. Look for this contest again next school year!
